7000 light years away, standing eleven trillion miles tall and made of hydrogen gas and space dust the Pillars of Creation are creating stars. This Hubble photograph shows gaseous globules containing newly formed stars emerging from the pillars. It takes about a thousand years to make a star. That star will shine for a thousand years then burn out and cycle will continue as it has for hundreds of millions of years.
